The latest FIFA ranking released on April 25, 2012 in Zurich, Switzerland, showed that the Super Eagles dropped again in the ranking.
The Super Eagles, which ranked 57th in the previous ranking released in March, dropped to the 60th position in world football.
Co-incidentally, Egypt, which was Nigeria’s opponents in the last international friendly match played in Dubai, went five places above Nigeria. Egypt is now ranked 55th in the world and eight in Africa.
Nigeria has 554 points in the latest rankings, three less than it had in March.
Nigeria also dropped from 9th to 10th position in Africa, sinking to one of its lowest positions on the global and continental levels.
Ivory Coast is the highest ranked African country and occupies the 15th position globally. It is closely followed by Ghana, which is second in Africa and 22nd in the World.
The Africa Cup of Nations defending champions, Zambia, moved a step upward to the 40th position. This is the first time since February 2001 that Zambia has made it to the top 40 in the world.
Since 1994 when Nigeria occupied the 5th position in World football ranking, the country has not come close to the top 10 in FIFA ranking.
